Cambridge Springs-Crawford County-  Amid the Victorian glory of an historic, 250-room hotel in Crawford County, visitors for some time have been reporting uncomfortable energies. There's a dark pull toward the French Creek. There's a playful energy resounding in the hallways. and there's at least one shadowy apparition calling out for recognition. Reporting's at The Riverside  Inn were enough to lure the ghost hunting team and production crew  of the Travel Channel's "Dead Files Revisited" and as part of the episode "Plagued and Lethal Waters" two Butler County sisters were called in to assist. Jean McKenzie Vincent and Suzanne Vincent spent four days filming parts of the episode, which will air at

The Travel Channel contacted us because of our reputation of being a expert ghost hunters, para-normal. investigators, psychic mediums and para therapists, Suzanne Vincent  said. A para therapist is a person who goes to a haunted location and tries to find out why a ghost is bothering people that are at that location. In this case, visitors to the circa 1880's hotel, which was original a mineral spa, had for some time reporting a handful of unexplained energies. Suzanne Vincent said. The

paranormal connections: seeking answers from the other side

Pittsburgh Post Gazette KAREN KANE Pittsburgh

The reasons are many.

Carol Polo of Westmoreland County is desperate to know who murdered her 22-year-old daughter, Samantha Lang. Vicki Scheller of Butler County was determined to recover the body of her son, Mickey Schller, 21.

Former first lady Nancy Reagan sought to protect her husband, then-President Ronald Reagan. Former state Sen. Jane Orie and her sister, former state Supreme Court Justice Joan Orie Melvin, wanted to learn the outcome of the criminal investigations that eventually would prove to be their undoing.

Pat DiFiore, recently retired from Cranberry Public Library, said the speaking program at the library that consistently has the biggest draw is a pair of Butler County sister psychics, Suzanne Vincent and Jean McKenzie Vincent, who have been part of the library’s speaking series for about five years.

The library's meeting rooms hold about 50 people, and Ms. DiFiore has moved the program to a bigger area, "and, even though that had space for 80, we’ve had to turn people away,” she said.

Suzanne Vincent of Butler said she believes those who dabble in the paranormal are exploring their personal sense of connection to “the other side.”

“Everybody has an ability,” she said. “You might get a vibration or a dream or a hunch or an intuition. Maybe you don’t give it much notice. But, it could be an angel or a spirit guide coming to you.''

She said she became aware of her connection when she was about 4 years old and she received a “visit” from her deceased grandmother. Over the years, as she pursued a conventional life as a hairstylist and caregiver, practicing her Roman Catholic faith, she increasingly began tuning in to her abilities as a spiritual medium. She said she uses them — at no charge — to help others. She and her sister recently came to the aid of two mourning mothers, she said.

In October 2013, Ms. Scheller of Franklin asked the sisters for their help in locating her son. Ms. Scheller said she knew from Aug. 7, 2013, the first day that her son, Mickey, was missing, that he was dead. “But, I wanted to know where he was. I wanted that closure,” she said.

Ms. Scheller credits the sisters for giving her that. With his shirt in hand, they drove to some of the areas her son was known to have frequented until they reached a point where the sisters said they felt his “energy.” Because of rainy weather and the terrain, Ms. Scheller had to wait until the next day, Oct. 20, to return to the site. Her son’s body was found nearby in his Jeep.

“I know it sounds strange, but we were driving around and, all of a sudden, they both just had this feeling. And they were right,” Ms. Scheller recalled. “It was 74 days of Mickey being gone, and it was a very bad time of our lives. Without them, we couldn’t have put all the things together that we put together to find him. They did it out of the kindness and they answered our prayer in helping us find him,” she said. She would not discuss the details of her son’s cause of death.

More recently, the sisters were asked to help Ms. Polo of Latrobe. On April 23, they met at a house in Derry Township — the place where Ms. Polo’s daughter was killed on March 27, 2007 — in an attempt to help Ms. Polo learn something about the circumstances of the homicide.

“It’s been all this time and her murder is still unsolved. As a mother, you’re willing to try anything,” Ms. Polo said.

As for her impression of the encounter: “It was amazing. They said they could hear her laugh. She had such a distinctive laugh and they described it. And they gave us the initials of her killer … I’m a believer,’’ Ms. Polo said.

Police investigation into the murder is ongoing.

Psychic Vincent sisters Ghost Tour in Zelienople

Ghost Tour

ZELIENOPLE — The Kaufman House doesn't look haunted. It was built in 1903 and suffered a fire in 2011. It got a facelift under current owner Pat Boylan. There are no bats in the windows, no creaking door hinges. The only spooky element is the fact it has a four-year-old interior and a 116-year-old shell.

But self-described psychic sisters Suzanne and Jean Vincent said they were disturbed when they visited Thursday night. They said they've felt energies since they first stopped in the Kaufman House years ago.

“I used to see spirits all the time,” Suzanne said. “Checking things out. Making sure things were OK.”

“It's all loving and happy,” Jean added.

The Vincents are known as mediums, paranormal researchers and psychic criminal profilers. When they were in Zelienople years ago, Suzanne sensed she needed to go deeper into the Kaufman House.

“She was very bothered,” recalled Spring Street Café owner Mary Hess, who organized Thursday night's ghost tour with the sisters.

The tour began and ended at Spring Street Café. The heart of it took place in the Kaufman House, where visitors were encouraged to use spirit boxes, dowsing rods, EVP monitors, phones and cameras. The Vincents brought their own tools. A bouncy ball made the list. Jean explained she sensed the spirits of children during her last visit.

Those on the tour joined it for a variety of reasons. Walter Scott, a retired mechanical engineer from Zelienople, said he's interested in the scientific aspect.

“I'm very interested in physics,” Scott explained. “(The field's) becoming almost

While touring the basement floor of the house, Suzanne told visitors she identified four spirits:

- John, a former innkeeper, was stocky and definitely liked his food.

- Henry was watchful. His mission, according to Suzanne, was to keep the house safe.

- George, tall and dark, brought a strange energy for many visitors, especially when they walked through the back corner of the basement. Suzanne reported George died from injuries he sustained in a brawl. He was angry, according to the sisters, but not dangerous.

“Somebody beat him,” Suzanne told ghost seekers. “He's very angry about things.”

- The only female presence she felt was Myrtle: A former housekeeper, Myrtle was concerned no one was keeping order in the house. The continuing renovations didn't meet her standards.

Chelsea Mars, the great-granddaughter of former Kaufman House workers, tried to connect with spirits via dowsing rods.

“I could feel it all the way up in my arms,” she told her group of onlookers.

Joe assisted the sisters in their investigation. He provided ghost seekers with opportunities to ask questions of any present spirits. Joe cautioned that a ghost who was a liar in real life would be a bigger liar in death.

“Never ask them what it's like on the other side,” he advised. “They don't know. They haven't been there yet.”

The tour ended at the Spring Street Café with hors d'oeuvres and an analysis of the tour. Many people reported they felt something in the house. Scott didn't see anything himself, but enjoyed the adventure. Though they feel fine-tuned to spirits, the Vincent sisters believe everyone has a little medium in them. They encouraged seekers to try to feel the energies in the house.

“We're just helpers,” Jean said. “We're just helpers to the other side.”
